Who We Are

A Strong, United Voice for Ophthalmologists

The Australian Society of Ophthalmologists (ASO) exists to be a voice for ophthalmologists practising in Australia. Since our establishment in 1982, we have grown from humble beginnings to become a leader of medico-political advocacy.

Today, we work to protect excellence in the delivery of ophthalmology care and maintain equitable access to ophthalmology services for all Australians. We represent our members in discussions with government, health authorities, and other professional bodies.

The ASO is committed to ensuring that Australian patients continue to receive the highest standard of specialist eye care — delivered by fully qualified ophthalmologists with the training, skills, and expertise their conditions require.

"The ASO stands as the definitive peak body for ophthalmologists in Australia — protecting patients through professional excellence and medico-political advocacy."
ASO President, Dr Peter Sumich
