Support for ASO Members Following Recent Events in Sydney
15th December 2025
By Katrina Ronne, CEO
The Australian Society of Ophthalmology extends its deepest care and concern to all members, colleagues, patients and families affected by the antisemitic terrorist attack in Bondi yesterday, which targeted the Jewish community as they celebrated Hanukkah - the festival of lights.
Incidents of this nature can have wide-reaching emotional impacts, whether you were directly affected, supporting others, or feeling distressed by the news. Please know that you are not alone, and support is available.
We encourage any member who is experiencing distress, anxiety, or difficulty coping to access professional support through the services listed below. These services are confidential, available nationally, and include immediate crisis support, counselling, and specialist mental health care.
If you or someone you know requires urgent assistance, please contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately.
As a medical community, we recognise the emotional toll such events can take and strongly encourage you to prioritise your wellbeing and that of your teams.
Checking in with colleagues and seeking support early can make a meaningful difference.
Our thoughts remain with all those impacted.
