It's a social advocacy film shifting the focus from 'disability' to 'ability' with a focal message on preventative eye health... and it's almost here!

My Eyes is a powerful social impact film that shines a light on the often-overlooked experiences of individuals living with disability, particularly those navigating life with vision impairment.

Through a deeply human and emotional lens, the film challenges societal perceptions and encourages audiences to reflect on inclusion, accessibility, and the importance of empathy.

By amplifying voices that are rarely heard on screen, My Eyes aims to spark meaningful conversations and drive real change in how we see and support one another in our communities.

Did you know?

  • Over 4.4 million people in Australia live with a disability — 18% of the population (ABS 2019)
  • 98.1% of global website home pages have accessibility issues (WebAM Million Report 2020)
  • Over 575,000 Australians are blind or vision impaired (Vision Australia 2016)
  • 1 in 5 children have an undetected vision problem (Optometry Australia).

Among the cast are Australians Adam Garcia (Coyote Ugly) and Tsu Shan Chambers (Suka) as well as Paralympic Judo Gold Medallist Eduardo Avila Sanchez and Kieu Chinh (The Joy Luck Club). Local pop singer Dami Im is also credited with the theme song.

The film has already garnered international attention following its world premiere at the prestigious 39th Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina and was picked to represent Australia at the 69th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Macau.

The Australian premiere will soon follow at the AACTA qualifying Gold Coast Film Festival on Sunday, 4 May 2025.

We went behind the scenes with Tsu Shan and Eduardo for the October 2023 edition of the ASO Members Bulletin, which you can catch up with here. We also spoke to Queensland-based ophthalmologist Dr Phillipa Sharwood who helped curate the clinical aspects within the script.

A portion of every ticket sold for My Eyes will be distributed evenly among a group of organisations dedicated to eye care and blind sports — and you have a part to play!

Purchase tickets to a screening near you from 28 May 2025 and contribute to preventative eye health through the film's social advocacy efforts.

Members of the ASO team will be supporting the film's premiere Q&A screening in Brisbane on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 — and we hope to see you there.
